Crawford County Women in Business announces inaugural Farm to Table Dinner (2024)

The Crawford County Women in Business Impact Organization (WIBIO), housed under the Chamber and Development Council of Crawford County (CDC), is thrilled to announce their first-ever Farm to Table Dinner, set to take place on Sunday, June 23, in Uptown Denison on Broadway, near The Bake Shop. This unique event aims to celebrate local produce, community spirit, and the ongoing revitalization efforts in Uptown Denison.

The evening will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m., offering guests the opportunity to tour a stunning loft apartment in Uptown Denison, paying homage to WIBIO’s signature event, the Holiday Tour of Homes, which could not be held in the 2023 holiday season. The meal will be served at 6 p.m., featuring a delectable three-course menu.

The first course will be a fresh, in-season salad, followed by a ribeye steak from Vintage Beef, grilled to perfection by the Crawford County Cattlemen and accompanied by delicious sides. The meal will conclude with a delightful dessert prepared by The Bake Shop. The Bake Shop’s bar will also be open.

Tickets for this event are priced at $75, which includes the meal and one drink ticket for The Bake Shop (valid only on the day of the event). Tickets can be purchased at the CDC Office, The Cottage, Farm Bureau (Dave Schwarte’s office), or online at tinyurl.com/2zaubr2f.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Washington Park Project. The remaining portion will be used for WIBIO projects.

“We are incredibly excited to transform Uptown Denison into a lively dinner space,” said Mariah Nutt, office manager of the CDC. “This Farm to Table Dinner is not only a celebration of local food and community but also a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the beautification and revitalization of our town. We hope to make this an annual event that brings people together and showcases the best of what Crawford County has to offer.”

An inspired idea

The concept for the dinner was inspired by similar events in neighboring communities.

“The idea was inspired by surrounding communities who have put one on. Mayor Pam Soseman and Taylor Borkowski brought the idea to WIBIO,” Nutt said.

Promoting local agriculture

Nutt sees the event as a way to promote local agriculture and sustainable food practices.

“I see this event contributing to the promotion of local agriculture and sustainable food practices by making people aware of the things our county has to offer and the importance of supporting local. Maybe it will inspire some people to start their own gardens or farms,” she said.

Aligning with WIBIO’s mission

This event is closely aligned with the broader mission of WIBIO.

“The Crawford County Women in Business (WIBIO) strive to make Crawford County a great place to live, work, and play. Sometimes this is done through service projects, donating funds to other projects, beautifying the county, or hosting events,” Nutt said.

Support from local businesses and organizations

The Farm to Table Dinner has garnered substantial support from local businesses and organizations.

“We’ve had many businesses and some individual families step up and sponsor this event! Another organization that has stepped up to help is Boy Scout Troop 55. They will be helping us set up the event,” Nutt mentioned.

Sponsors for the event include Broadway Dental, United Bank of Iowa, Vintage Beef, Segebart Chiropractic, The Vonnahme Family, Buena Vista University (Denison location), Denison Livestock Auction, and In the Moment Photography by Jessica Raymie.

Opportunities for community involvement

Community members are encouraged to participate or volunteer for the event.

“To volunteer for this event, they can reach out to Nutt at mnutt@cdcia.org or 712-263-5621. Another way to support this event is to buy a ticket. If anyone is unable to volunteer for this event but wants to know more about WIBIO, they can go to cdcia.org/wibio,” Nutt said.

With this exciting new initiative, WIBIO hopes to cultivate a deeper appreciation for local agriculture and foster a sense of community among residents of Crawford County.
