Mission of the Learning Center:
The mission of the Learning Center is to educate the whole child by supporting the academic, social, and spiritual needs of all learners
Overview:
Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic funds its own Special Education Classroom which is known as our Learning Center. The Learning Center serves students in grades K-8 with specific learning disabilities and diagnosis in the areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students are identified for participation in this program based on multiple criteria. This includes: teacher and parent observations, classwork, a variety of informal and formal assessments, and standardized test scores. Students who qualify for this type of instruction will receive a modified curriculum which will benefit the students’ unique learning styles and differences.
Objectives of the Learning Center:
- Our Instructional Support Team will provide the framework and foundation for the program which consists of the principal, school counselor, learning specialist, teachers, students, and parents.
- Our IST’s primary goal is to address and resolve the issues of struggling students and is handled by a case by case protocol.
- The goal is for eligible students to receive specialized instruction in specific subject areas for a portion of the day within the Learning Center with the ultimate goal for each student to learn strategies to be able to simulate back into regular ed classroom
- Each student will have a Student Success Plan (SSP) specifically tailored to their educational goals.
