Turkish Rugs | Handmade & Unique Pieces | ECARPETGALLERY (2024)

When it comes to decorating your home, every area of your space can benefit from an authentic Turkish rug. You might have already set the tone by selecting your room’s key furniture elements including the sofa and table, but now feel a little overwhelmed when trying to find that perfect carpet to blend seamlessly. Adding a handmade Turkish rug, the designs of which are based on repeating geometric polygons, some enclosing figures of animals and others again with the more ornate, though still geometric flavor, is an excellent way to enhance your home’s aesthetic. Our collection of woolen Turkish carpets come in a staggering range of styles and sizes, which gives you plenty of ways to mix and match them. By placing a delicate subtle-toned Turkish rug into a room that’s already spewing with patterns and shades, you can achieve an ideal unity of form and content making it clear that the room was thoughtfully and tastefully decorated. In addition to their durability, impeccable beauty and historic appeal, authentic Turkish rugs and kilims support Art Deco, Modern, Boho, Classic and Eclectic design styles perfectly.

How to Choose a Turkish Rug?

Our handwoven Turkish rugs come in an endless variety of styles with bold open designs and elaborate borders. Tribal Turkish carpets such as those found in our Melis Rug Collection are handwoven by small nomadic tribes and as a result are unstandardized and one of a kind. Stylistic geometric motifs take center stage with the open-field oftentimes streaked by ‘abrashes’, those variations within the same color dye that are common in village weaving and which constitute one of the ‘imperfections’ that make oriental carpets so vibrant with life. If you happen to be taken by the floral medallion and curvilinear weaving techniques then our Hereke Rug Collection is a great place to begin exploring the design work of traditional Turkish rugs. Their pile is thick, the weave medium-fine and outstandingly neat, with a well-balanced construction. We also offer an array of Turkish kilim rugs available in every size and color. These flatweave rugs have zero pile and feature bold expressive design combined with vibrant colors and tribal style.

How to Maintain Turkish Rugs?

Collectors of vintage Turkish rugs and kilims understand that proper care and regular upkeep preserves and even appreciates the value of their investment. While wool rugs do an incredible job at hiding dirt, these pieces will over time undergo wear and as such accumulate abrasive dirt that if left to fester can damage the rug’s fibers and foundation. This type of damage cannot be undone and as more and more dirt penetrate the fibers it leads to a loss of color and vibrancy making the rug appear rather dull. Rather than wait till your rug looks dirty to bring it in for a clean, we recommend you incorporate a few at-home care practices that will help extend the life and sheen of your rug. Regular vacuuming of your Turkish area rug will help to eliminate dirt and particles. Firstly, be sure to turn the beater bar off as the aggressive motorized brush can break the surface fibers of your rug. Next, vacuum sideways across the width of the rug and across the direction of the pile. At all costs avoid vacuuming over the fringe as rotating brushes will quickly tear the fringe. If your rug has a thin foundation with a pile, we recommend using an upholstery attachment and vacuuming in the direction of the pile only. Don’t be aggressive and apply too much pressure. The goal is to keep the buildup of dust and grit to a minimum. In general, you want to vacuum the top of your rug every 1 to 2 weeks depending on the traffic they are getting and their location in your home. Every other month, vacuum the backside of the rug as this will help to keep moth and bug activity down.
